The goal of root canal treatment is to retain your tooth in your dental arch. Why? To preserve the jaw bone that supports it and to provide a surface on which to chew food.
When the nerve or pulp of your tooth becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause pain, swelling, and throbbing. This can be a result of trauma to the tooth or bacterial infection from decay. Root canal or endodontic therapy simply removes the source of infection along with blood and nerve supply, followed by an inert filling material used to seal the tooth. Generally, a crown is recommended to strengthen and protect your tooth from fracture.
Common symptoms of a root canal infection:
- Sharp, acute or intense pain
- Pain when biting
- Sensitivity to hot or cold
- Tooth feels higher when biting
- Tenderness and swelling of soft tissue around the tooth
- Bad taste in the mouth
Should you require root canal therapy, you can rest easy knowing that we will be working hand in hand with the specialist to achieve the highest quality of care best suited to your needs.
